Irvine Parish Cemetery? Where is it?

Post by capecodnad » Sat Mar 16, 2013 1:52 am

I have information that my husband's 6th great grandmother, Catherine Wylie OSBORNE died Dec 29, 1859 in Loch Byres, Kilwinning, Scotland. She is listed as being buried in the 'churchyard in Irvine'.

I have a couple of questions:
Where is Loch Byres?
Where exactly is the churchyard in Irvine? Does it have a cemetery name?

My husband and I are traveling to Ireland, England and Scotland in JUne and we are hoping to actually visit this area. Is there an address for the caretaker of the cemetery that we can contact?

Thanks in advance.

Hello Nancy,

This house is in Byres Loch, Kilwinning, and there’s a description of the location. (some of these links may be slow loading)
http://media.gspc.co.uk/resources/prope ... hedule.pdf

Here’s the same location in street view.

If you zoom right into the top left quarter of this Kilwinning Survey map from 1856, and look for the areas of land marked 1428, 1510, and 1515, you’ll see just between them different places marked Byres including the street marked Loch. No fish there it seems.
