Andrew and Sarah,
Thanks for the tips. I printed Daniel's death cert - he died in Barnhill Poorhouse - was that actually in the district of Dennistoun ?- age 71 on 27/07/1876. pauper - formally cotton spinner. Quite sad really - the first pauper i have come across in researching my family. It says cause of death Hamophtysis. Parents Archibald Mitchell - cotton spinner dec and Elizabeth Mitchell m.s McPhee (i have a McPhee somewhere else).
Also below is IGI of the family of Elizabeth and Archibald.

. ELIZABETH MITCHAL - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Female Christening: 24 JUN 1798 Abbey (Paisley), Renfrew, Scotland
2. JANET MITCHAL - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Female Christening: 28 DEC 1806 Abbey (Paisley), Renfrew, Scotland
3. JAMES MITCHAL - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Christening: 10 JAN 1796 Abbey (Paisley), Renfrew, Scotland
4. ANDREW MITCHAL - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Christening: 01 MAR 1801 Abbey (Paisley), Renfrew, Scotland
5. DANIEL MITCHAL - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Christening: 13 NOV 1803 Abbey (Paisley), Renfrew, Scotland

Excellent to get back to 1796 - thanks for the help.

Hi Ailsa

Just a comment about his cause of death. Probably Haemoptysis coughing up of blood - which usually was a terminal consequence of Respiratory Tuberculosis. An all too common complaint and cause of death in those days.

I hope his details from the poorhouse give a wealth of additional information. That usually sets you off searching in about three directions at once !

Roan/Rowan, Hastings, Sharp, Lapraik in Ayr & Kirkcudbrightshire.
Johnston, Reside, Lyle all over the place !

Watson, Morton, Anderson, Tawse, in Kilrenny

Me again,

Just trying to find Mary Mitchell (Niblock)'s death certificate and it's proving to be difficult. I have narrowed it down to after she was on the 1861 census to when Daniel died in 1876 (It says widower on his cert). I put the info in the search - Mary Mitchell born 1804 +- 3 years i have tried putting in Niblock but that comes up with nil, putting only Glasgow city comes up with only 4 - none are her. I put in mothers surname - nil. Then i tried all areas and i have 38 but i can't see any that fit.
Anyone any ideas?

Hi Ailsa,

The full group of children I found are as follows.

JAMES MITCHAL - Christening: 10 JAN 1796 Abbey (Paisley), Renfrew, Scotland
ELIZABETH MITCHAL - Christening: 24 JUN 1798 Abbey (Paisley), Renfrew, Scotland
ANDREW MITCHAL - Christening: 01 MAR 1801 Abbey (Paisley), Renfrew, Scotland
DANIEL MITCHAL - Christening: 13 NOV 1803 Abbey (Paisley), Renfrew, Scotland
JANET MITCHAL - Christening: 28 DEC 1806 Abbey (Paisley), Renfrew, Scotland

And the parents marriage OPRs in Lochwinnoch and Abbey (Paisley).

Hi Ailsa,

I searched for Mary Mitchell/Nib* with no age or birth year and there is one in 1868.

Regards,
Annette

Hi Anette,
Thanks for that - i had a look at that just now - it has her name as Niblo which could well be her except the date is 1868 and has her age 52 - she was 54 in the 1861(even at that her birth date in IGI is 1804) census which would make her 61 in 1868. Still could be possible i suppose only thing is i have only 8 credits so i will have to be more certain!!
Andrew P,
Thanks for the list - i did find the Christian on IGI but not Archibald!! wonder if there's any more?
I got the marriage thanks 11 Feb 1792 Lochwinnoch.
You commented that

1857, MITCHELL, ANN, NIBLOCK, F, 11, BRIDGETON GLASGOW CITY/LANARK 644/03 0668

would be worth investing in, why don't you think it is a straightforward death cert??

That should be the lot, unless there is some wild spelling variation. An IGI parent search should have found them all.

I have no suspicions about the death, only that it almost certainly belongs to that family, and could contain some morsel of new information.

All the best,
