1891 census shows Peter Reynolds born Glasgow (your Peter), Cambuslang, Airdrie and Ayrshire all around the same age.
1901 census shows Peter Reynolds born Scotland (the soldier), Cambuslang, Airdrie and Scotland (he is definitely the one born Ayrshire).

Hopefully if Carol checks she will agree.

Have to be out the door early this morning so I won't get back to this until later!

One question that I did have concerned Peter's occupation. Seems to me that boilermaker would take some training or experience and not be a job that one would just drop to become a carter. Unless he was injured or fired... That would make me lean toward the soldier being your Peter. Except if he was born in Ayrshire, then he wouldn't be yours? More questions than answers here!

Hi Carol,

The one born Ayrshire is still living with his parents at Leicester in 1901.

Hi Carol and Annette,

Thanks for all your help - i have a feeling it will remain a mystery where Peter Reynolds was on census night 1901.
He married Agnes Malloy on 31.12.1902 and their first child was born 10.02.1903 - they waited a while before making it legal ! maybe he ran away but then decided to come back and face the music. I may never know.
