1901 Occupation "Lufulcer" Fitter

Post by Montrose Budie » Fri Jul 09, 2010 5:16 pm

I've long ago given up commenting on Ancestry Scottish census errors.

Not least since, despite such errors, the Ancestry Scottish census databases are of great use since it's possible to specify the place of birth when searching; and, depending, on the census involved, the occupation.

If only the ScotlandsPeople search engine could offer similar search possibilities !

The reason for this post is the Ancestry 1901 index entry for a William or maybe Wm SMITH, as "Lufulcer Fitter (Retired)"'

In 1891 William appears clearly as a "Engine Fitter".

Draw your own conclusions !!

While I'd agree that the 1901 hand concerned ain't at all easy to read, is it believable that "Lufulcer Fitter" appears on the Ancestry list of Scottish occupations, issued, hopefully, to Ancestry transcribers/data inputters ?
