The mill itself has been converted into a house and we are in the Millers House alongside - absolutely great place - enormous garden with bowling green and tennis court [not advertising but I can recommend
]Anyway, my 'history' brain can't be turned off and I'm fascinated by the history of this place. The owners - Sir Somebody - have a few bits of information pinned up in the house, but it only tells who owned the place , not who lived there.
I have looked at freecen, but can't seem to find a miller living here in 1841 or 1851.
Can anyone suggest a way to find out ?
I'm using my husband's laptop, so all my bookmarked sources aren't at my fingertips ....
I gather that it used to be called the Mill of Kirkpatrick Durham but changed to the Mill of Lochpatrick in the 1770's
The last owners mentioned on the board are David Dundas Wingham who sold it to Thomas Walton Campbell of Walton Park in November 1858.
It was a working mill up until after WWII, and used as farm buildings until restored and turned into a house in the 1960/70's
To put it in geographical context :
Kirkpatrick Durham is just north of Castle Douglas, the mill is just north of that.

Anyone help satisfy my curiosity?
