Stillbirths.....

Post by melvinboy » Fri May 26, 2006 7:52 pm

Can someone tell me if a stillbirth happened around the beginning of the 1900's in Scotland would the death be registered?

Stillbirths were not registered before 1939, and that register is closed apart from exceptional legal circumstances. A death certificate for a baby is only issued following the death of a "live birth" baby. So I would not expect to find any record of a stillbirth around 1900.

All the best,
