Hi team
Thanks again for your time & effort for my search

also the photo of Abbottsford St in the 1960's which is a big help as I am trying to put together an album of where ALL the ancestors where married, not as easy as I thought.
It is almost impossible to find just a photo of any church, they take you through the site but no outside photo's.
This is just an addition to my tree.
Thanks again
Tricia

Hello Tricia,
I’m just trying to figure something out.
The marriage image you downloaded from ScotlandsPeople would be TIF image of about 70kb and of dimensions about 2500x1500 pixels. The one I can see in the gallery is a JPG image of 52kb and of dimensions 480x318. (if there’s a bigger image in the gallery I can’t see it).
If you compare both images you will see the problem. Somewhere between SP and the gallery the image has turned into something quite different. It seems a bit Monty Python for people to be pondering over a quite unreadable image, which no amount of magnification or manipulation will improve, when the person asking the question is looking at something in it’s original size and condition. Magnifying these small images is a bit like writing something on a balloon and then blowing up the balloon so you can read it more clearly.
There are plenty of full size TIFs in the gallery and there is very little difference in file size so I can’t see a problem there. I would like to see something added to the instructions for the poster to check that the image in the gallery is a full size one or alternatively for the poster to be asked to post a full size image if they do post a postage stamp variety.
The census or post 1855 certificate image to be posted should be the original as received from SP. Don’t fiddle with it via a graphics or email program or a right click unless you are cropping and you know what you are doing.
I’m not directing all this at you Tricia, especially if it was your first attempt. It’s mainly just a rant.
All the best,
Alan

Hi Alan
Yes this was the first time I have uploaded & with difficulty but I DID NOT "fiddle" with any graphics, as I wouldn't know how to, and you are right, we novices DON'T ALWAYS KNOW how to do things.
I simply followed the instructions given in the post and it told me upload was successful.
I am not sure whether I feel hurt or angry at your comment, TS has always been so friendly & helpful, now I'm not sure if I want to visit the site again

Hello Tricia,
I apologise if I have upset you as that was not my intent.
I know that I tend to rave on a bit but I thought that it was important that people know the basics about images. That’s why I described a group of experts looking at a degraded image when the questioner had a perfect image as a “Monty Python” situation.
I would rather be accused of being rude than allow a silly situation to continue just for the sake of being polite.
Don’t imagine that you are the only one who has posted a postage stamp image, there have been many, and the problem with such images has been ignored or unnoticed by many who should know better.
My view of this site is that it is there not just to answer an individuals question but is an education tool for everyone who reads the answers. That’s why an answer I give can often be directed at all and sundry rather than just the questioner.
You know yourself that TalkingScot is the best thing since Sliced Bread. I’m sure that you could continue to gain from and contribute to the forum as well as put up with my occasional transgressions. Just like everything else it takes all types to populate a forum.
I hope you’ll accept my apology.
All the best,
Alan

Hi Alan,
Thank you so much for your apology to Tricia. I'm sure no harm was meant.
Perhaps the AG needs to take another look at the instructions for uploading images to the site. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
Kind Regards,
Ina

Alan
I accept your apology.
Please remember when you are being so critical that not all of us know everything -and the work I do on my tree is for relaxation, not a school exam.

No problem Trish.
I know Alan meant no harm. It would have been more appropriate for him to have PM'd the AG and informed them that the instructions for uploading needs to be updated.
Regards,
Ina

Hi Tricia,
My guess for the Minister would be:
John C Stuart L L D
Minister of St Bernard's
Tradeston I will accept from those with local knowledge, although it doesn't look much like it

And
Forms of the Church of Scotland is now quite clear.
Cheers,
Sarah
