What a great Mother in law to find. :D
Yes, but was she really 99, or did her son-in-law just think she looked like she was 99?

All the best,

Hello again folks,

The detailed 'finds' you furnished me with was just FANTASTIC....... they were definately my relations/family.

I tried to "veiw" the marriage certificate of John Graham and Ann MacInnes (married 1865) in the Scotland's People website, but when I clicked veiw, the whole PC froze! I tried it several times, but the same thing happened each time. I've reported the fault, and I await an outcome.

It may be the only way I will be able to see the actual marriage certificate is to buy a copy of GROS DATA 119/00 0015 for the £10. Seems odd that having paid for a load of Credits I will have to resort to getting a real copy rather than a download from the website. Is this a common occurence please?

Thanks so much

You will have paid to view the extract so no more credits will be deducted.

Try going in to My Details (at the top of the page). Scroll down and near the bottom of the page where it says Image Viewer change the sttings to Direct Download. That should solve the problem.

Kind regards,
Annette

Hello Annette,

That worked a treat......... once again I am in your debt.

The only snag was, the Marriage Certificate when veiwed is basically unreadable. It's handwriting alright, but what it is saying is anybodies guess........... it's like join the dots and you might get what the subject is.

I wonder if I purchase a certified copy would it be readable, or would it be more of just the same? £10 would worth it, if I can actualy read it.

All the best,

Bryn

Hi Bryn,

There are two answers and neither of them involves spending £10.

(1) On the ScotlandsPeople website, submit a contact form (via the contact us link at the foot of their webpages) saying that the certificate you downloaded was unreadable. They will normaly send you an e-mail of a fresh scan of the certificate that should be a lot easier to read. As that comes from GROS who are on holiday today, you won't receive it today (hopefully in the next few days, depending how busy they are upon their return from holidays).

(2) Upload the one that you have to the TalkingScot Gallery and the people online here will have a shot at deciphering what is there.
See viewtopic.php?t=6496 for instructions.

All the best,

AndrewP

Hello Andrew,

I am most obliged for you giving me your time and expertise on this.

I shall do as you say under point ONE.

Point TWO, I shall follow your instructions and see what you good people can make of it. It may take me a while!!

All the very best, thanks so much for saving me £10. I remember when these were HUGE white notes and very rare in our house in Glasgow's east end.

Uploaded Marriage Certificate

Post by Tartan Giant » Wed Jan 02, 2008 3:04 pm

Hello again Andrew,

I think I have managed to upload the Marriage Certificate........ it awaits approval before it appears.

I will let you know about whether Scotland's people will give me a readable image of the said certificate at some later date.

Best wishes,

Bryn
