In 1910 what appear to be Jane and married daughter Jessie (married to John C Yeoman) have decided they came to the U.S. in 1896. Jane has also lowered her age considerably... She reminds me of one of my great grandmothers who got younger every year
I hope this is the right family... Catherine is still unmarried and living on her own in another city. She, too, has suddenly become younger  Must run in the family

Must go stack some wood so the express delivery man can get to the house to deliver my new computer mouse (the old one dropped on the tile floor-- not to be recommended). If anyone else can get a handle on these people, by all means go ahead :D

All the best,
Sarah

Hi Sarah,
I think the 1900 census is them - i can get to 8 children so it's more than likely it was 9. Maybe Thomas and George stayed behind with David and only David went in 1887 with wife Rachel (Hartford). Very confusing.
I'm not sure of the 1910 census - seems odd now her name is Jessie and they say they landed in 1896 instead of 1883. I will continue to look on SP and see if i can find anyone.

I can't find Jane's death, but she was there in 1910 and not in 1920 (at least I can't find her). Since you had such good luck with the other librarian... why not try this one:

Good luck!

Sarah,

You are truly amazing - have you thought of doing this for a living! Well done!
(trumpets blowing).
So in actual fact all the family more or less went to the USA - to think how different things would have turned out had David married MY maternal gt grandmother - the mind boggles.
I will definitely have to start planning a trip over there once i have gleaned as much info as i can. I am still taking in the info from the Hartford Beveridges!

Trish,
The mystery is still what happened to Thomas and the others. I worked out that he couldn't have died in 1878 as on the 1881 census Catherine was only 6 months old. ( I was going to suggest that Jane had the two youngest to another man but Sarah has proved that on the US marriage cert Jennie's father was Thomas).
Still have my doubts tho... George born 1873 then Jane 1878, Catherine 1881. what happened in the 5 years - no comments please!

Anyway a great result i will go and digest it all.

Yours
Ailsa

Well, I wouldn't say "proved"... It's perhaps what Jennie was told! That said though, it's possible that Thomas was away on a ship for 5 years, then came back, then went away... and then didn't come back. One would need to know his whereabouts in 1877 and 1880! :-k

All the best,
Sarah
