Getting somewhere Sandra,

Try an 1889 Lanark marriage of an Elizabeth Marshall to an OROURKE. (sounds just like arock)

Best wishes

=D> well done Alan, we now know the informant was poor Elizabeth who could not spell her name, any suggestion for finding her father George.

Sandra

George was dec when Eliz. got married, so now I know he must have died between 1881 and 1889
Researching- Clark from Polmont, Wason from Dailly, Anderson & Williamson from Bridgeton, also Thomson, Sharp, Bryce, Gillen & Fairley

Actually I cheated.
Used the old 'keep adding letters' trick.

Hi Sandra,

There are 9 George Marshall deaths in Glasgow from 1881 to 1889. Only three of these are in the right age group. The births, marriages and deaths you have are all from north of the river, so the one in Hutchesontown should be the last one to go for.

That leaves you a choice of two - age 58 in 1884 in Calton or age 47 in 1885 in Camlachie. Does one of these fit the info you have from the 1881 census?

All the best,

AndrewP
