Hi Tracey
According to poor relief record in 1890 he was married and living at 4 Duncan Street Calton. It doesnt give wifes name.
Seems odd that the wife's name was not mentioned on this. Did it mention his daughter by name - Poor Relief Applications usually mention the place of birth of children, often by street address...

I'm just trying out different angles as I can see no obvious sign of your young Matthew on SP either. I wonder if they were not married and the two children we think are theirs, Annie & Matthew, are registered under their mother's surname, which, of course, we don't yet know?

Looking forwards in time with that Mat*thew..there are only three marriages on SP for a Mat*hew Casey - in 1918 Glasgow, 1922 Renfrew & 1924 Glasgow. If your Ma*thew is good enough to provide us with the names of his parents, that might help, though he may have left the country and maybe none of them are him....

Best wishes
Lesley

Hi Lesley

Robert's situation is mentioned on an Medical Relief (?) application (sorry i said Poor relief earlier) made by his mother and father and quite possibly the most accurate description given of them all so far. So from that i looked for a census, the one i found is the closest with age and birth place England so decided to work from that information and on it was a daughter Annie who i then looked for the birth of for the marriage date to try and confirm he, Robert was "mine" but i couldnt find one (taking a breath now !).

Five of Roberts siblings have now been "found and put in place" and he is one of three stragglers that i am stuggling with now.

Is one of the siblings named Edmund? I ask because there is a Matthew Casey of the right age and birthplace on a passenger list arriving in New York in 1912. He states he is going to join his "Uncle Edmund Casey" in Garden City, Long Island, New York. His nearest relative "from whence he came" is his sister Annie Casey, of 78 George St, Paisley.

All the best,
Sarah

Hi Tracey,
There is an Agnes Casey who died in 1899, age 30 in Calton. Could she be Robert's wife? Wonder where Robert went...

All the best,
Sarah

Later: Robert appears to be in Harrison, New York, according to what looks like Matthew's WWI enlistment papers (in Canada!) Also says that Matthew was born Jan 9, 1892 in Glasgow. I wonder what name he was registered under? His enlistment papers give his name as Matthew Charles Casey.

Well done Sarah !

Looked at the death certificate and it said she was married to Robert Casey and he signed it R. Casey. Looked for a marriage Agnes Ward and male sir name Casey - nothing - then just male first name Robert. Up came a list. Roberts christian name is Rob and his sir name is spelt Kassie and so is his parents. His sister is a witness and her name is spelt correctly.

At least he is accounted for now !
Thanks Sarah

Tracey

Forgot to add that Agnes's fathers name is Matthew so the Annie and Matthew are looking a bit more likely to belong to them.

Kassie!! Of course...! Well, that's a good lesson for all of us to remember that C and K are often the same sound in English. Glad Robert's more or less sorted out now. How many more siblings do you have to track down from this lot?
All the best,
Sarah
