Hi Karen,

Lesley most likely is away for several hours....

Sorry, but there isn't any image in the gallery waiting approval.

Regards
Marilyn

Hi all,

I just uploaded the OPR marriage for Rosanna Borland and Charles Hill to the gallery.

http://talkingscot.com/gallery/displayi ... ?pos=-1785

Strange, I was able to download it to my computer from SP, but when I tried to crop the image as usual and save it, I got a message saying the changes to the images could not be saved and that it might be a read only file or I might not have permission to save it?! Anyway, the uncropped version ended up in my pictures so I uploaded it to the TS gallery.

Karenn is right. The marriage is simply written into the page of 1835 marriage proclamations, but is clearly dated 1852. The marriage is in the IGI as 11 Jun 1852. Two children are also there. Charles Jr. 1844 is an extract and Elizabeth 1846 is a submission!

Hi Carol,

Just as you were sending the last message, I sent the images again so they're probably there twice now.

Cheers

Hi Karenn,

That's ok! I only posted the marriage OPR.

You certainly found an unusual one this time! The only thing that I can think of is that the date at the top of the page is incorrect? The only way to check that would be to buy the next page though, I think.

The 1852 looks like a normal entry, but how could that be?

Hi Carol,

I checked that as well. The other marriages recorded on this page are definately married in 1835.

Well, I'm going to sleep on it! Maybe some of the experts will figure this out while I'm off line!

It looks like it could be a page recording the calling of the banns for all these people, then the actual marriage date filled in later? Just, in most of the cases the couple was married fairly quickly and your pair took a long time to get around to the actual ceremony

Well, that's my guess, but I will be interested to see what the Scots make of it when they wake up over there

Regards,
Sarah

Could the dates across the page relate to the banns (are "proclamations" the same as banns?) and at a later time has been added when the actual marriage took place? Could someone have gone searching for this couple and discovered that they didn't marry until many years hence after the banns? (definitely speculation only, I have not seen anything like this before)

Is there significance in the word secession after the name of the minister?

Hi Girls,

Secession means retired. At least I found out that much!
