Sometimes (from what folk have said here on TS) they seem to be quite prompt with getting back to queries, and sometimes it seems there is a delay- of variable length. Not sure if this reflects busy times and quieter times... or if it is to do with staffing or some other issue.... As far as I remember I think the standard costs are along the lines of £2.50 for up to 5 pages from the same document or publication.
