Hi Litta
a few more items
1.
The IGI is free
- so you can search it any number of times, before paying at SP. It also equates the various spelling of names, so is sometimes easier to find people. So far I have found Learmonth spelt in 3 ways. The IGI contains an index to all the births in Scotland 1855-1874 and there are no children to be found at this time born to a James Learmount and Agnes Aitken.
2. When searching the Scottish records you can use * where unsure of the spelling - e.g. learm* will list all of the spellings we have found so far.
3. What was the occupation of Jessie's father on the 1894 marriage certificate - does it match with Robert or James on the census records - also the occupation of husband William - does it match the 1901 census below
4. James was 78 in 1886 - born about 1808 - Unless his wife was significantly younger than him, he was unlikely to still be having children in 1869.
Is this James and Agnes on the census
1881 - 109 Fountainbridge Edinburgh St Cuthberts
James Learmont 75 Iron founder - born Bothwell Lanark
Agnes Learmont 69 born St Cuthberts Edinburgh
1861 Same James(53) and Agnes(49) living with Alexander Aitken
Agnes would have been 57 by 1869 (or 55 in 1867) so she would surely not be the mother of a child born then.
5. Could Jessie have been unsure of her age? or simply subtracted a couple of years - as the most likely birth seems to be the one in 1867.
6.Could this be Jessie - back to being Janet H?
1901 Edinburgh Duddingston Midlothian
68 High Street
William Wood 36 born Railway store keeper Palhhead Ford??, Edinburgh
Janet H Wood 32 born Leith
Agnes Wood 3 born Portobello
Catherine Wood 1 born Portobello
Sorry to keep adding things - hope they are useful
