Hmmmmmmm.................
Just had another long, hard look.
The problem is that, with one exception that I can immediately see, this registrar didn't dot his "i"s, or the dots have faded into invisibility, and sometimes his "r"s are very clearly formed, other times they are more like a minim, sooo..... in the absence of other evidence I'd have to say COLVIN or COBURN.
Except ............
A dig into IGI produces no Agnes COBURN birth at all in the county of Argyll, but it does produce two possibilities, both in Campbeltown, for an Agnes COLVIN, one in 1778 to John COLVIN and Katherine FLEEMING (sic), t'other in 1783 to Robert COLVIN and Margaret GRENLIES.
Now that's not to say that there wasn't a COBURN birth, but the record was never made, or just isn't extant, as far as Argyll is concerned that is, but I'm starting to lean towards COLVIN
But then, of course, Campbeltown was only a short sail from the Ayrshire coast, and while there's no suitable COBURN birth in Ayrshire, there's plenty COCKBURNs, and for those not aware of the fact, that's nearly always pronounced as COBURN
Extending that theme, the Ulster coast is even closer than Ayrshire, so there must be the possibility of an Irish link as well (COLVAN for example) ........... never mind that oft forgotten Scottish county of Wigtown .......

Thanks to all who answered - perhaps once I track down the newly discovered "Catherine Innes" (informant on the death registry) the question might be answered -- then again one can't assume!
Off to add the COCKBURN name to the list of possibilities, Lisa
