the Death Certificate states:

Post by Beverly » Sat Jan 28, 2006 10:59 pm

I will definately keep an open mind. The death certificate stated he was x number of days old when he died ...... 41 and x days. We backed it up to July 4th (oops - July 1st is mine) HA !
Thanks.

I'm going to ask you to keep an open mind on this one just like Lesley has done! The age is extremely close!! I wonder what documentation you have that supports the July 1 birthdate? It's just that in my own research I had a GrGrAunt who was born in 1872 in Patna. I knew her growing up. I have family birthday books that have her birthdate recorded. I've seen her gravestone inscription. Imagine my utter surprise to learn from her BC registration in Scotland that she was actually born on a totally different date than what had always been celebrated!!!  Same month but several days off!!! Did her own parents forget?....I've often wondered how such a thing could occur! So yes....an open mind is critical in this game :D !

Best wishes
Jean

Welcome to TS :D

Just out of interest where did you get his birth date from and do you have the certificate ? I have just searched scotlandspeople and didnt find him there or on LDS. The closest i got was putting George Fawcett b 1870-80 and i think there were 4 but none including the name Elias born 1880.
Might just be me this time of night after a full days work
 :!:
Try searching for George FAWCET* :!: , and you will find wee George, but born June 10th, registered June 21st ....................

Hi Beverley
The George Fawcett in the 1881 census above appears to have been born on June 4th 1880. Parents were married in what looks to me like 1873, though the writing is terrible...

Have a look at the "T" in Thomas on the record below ........... :?: :!:

Is there or isn't there a hint of a cross bar on the first letter of the day of the month, so that it is an "F", but then where's the "r" gone

As each of these birth places is a county and not a town/parish, Paisley (Renfrewshire) is still a good possibility. Also, the 1881 census address in "Abbey" - that is the landward parish of Paisley (outside the town).

As the 1881 census was taken on the night of 3rd-4th April, if the 10 months is accurate, then that gives a birth around June 1880.

All the best,

Andrew Paterson
