If you could locate the grandfather in the 1901 census that would list a twin (and possibly other siblings), provided he was older than 59 at the time of death.

John McGill birth 1931
Hi Donna,
There seems to be some confusion on names; possibly on my part...
(i'm sure the name didn't start as Ian, but the old eyes were playing up!)
I could only see this birth, but not a twin.

John McGILL, born 4 JUN 1931 at the Maternity Home, Motherwell.
Parents - Thomas Allan McGILL & Isabella EVANS.
(usual residence 7A Annfield Place)

Probably nothing to do with your case but my mum was a twin but it wasn't stated on the birth certificate. I knew the twin and my grandmother didn't survive but I tried to get a birth certificate for the twin but couldn't so I assume it was born dead.

Hi Jack
That would be the correct McGill. His wife called him Ian and told us it was Ian John McGill. But infact it may have been John Ian... I just called him Jock... so it's any wonder it's all confusing. But the birth date definately matches.
Jock was raised by his grandparents - so where the twin thing came from is anyone's guess. We aren't even sure if there were other children to Thomas and Isabella.
We've been informed as to where Thomas is buried but not Isabella. Thomas is buried in Motherwell along with some of his mother I think I'll have to check my records.
Thank you so much for the infomation Jack - it's very much appreciated. What a great site so much help from so many wonderful people.
Thank you
Donna
