No comfort for anyone, I fear, but I remember when young being told of a hospital accident where a child died after being given "milk" to drink. This turned out to be Dettol and water mixed, which in those days at least, gave I think a whitish liquid.

Glad I was not the unfortunate nurse, (or child).

Just re-read DavidWW's post of April 1, 2006 'Fatal Accident Inquiries (FAI)' which may be of interest considering your enquiry, Karen.

Hullo All:

Thank you all for your input, Im goimg to add him to the long list of McMenemy casualties, so many of my rellies met with terrible endings,
drownings, mining accidents, cancer, you name it, Its no wonder my father rarely spoke about his family, it must have been too painful.

My dear cousin, Andrena has offered up some of her credits for his death cert, so we will see what the RCE says if anything, Ive read in earlier posts that it is possible to have only simple changes made, not real info at all, but, I am hopeful, I will be sure and post the findings.

wish me luck......Karen
Make it a great day!

My Granda had a brother who committed suicide - apparently that was his route too (- Lysol).

The poor soul, was apparently a wee bit simple, and was an object of fun. He disappeared one January night and was found dead a day or so later in a place called Gavins Quarry Clacks.

Sad isn't it.

Miss Pooh's

Oh my yes that is sad, anyone driven to that extreme just blows my mind.
I should have studied psychology, then maybe I'd understand them a little
better.
As Ive said before in earlier posts, my father wouldnt talk about his family much at all, and had a rocky relationship with his father, who he had termed an ass. Now I can get a handle on my grandfathers psyche, he was a victim of some horrendous times, and circumstances. I never met the man, he passed away years before I was born. I remember him being described as mean and cantakerous, who was worse when he had a nip or two ( which I guess was quite often). It's all pretty clear to me now..

Ta..

Hi Karen,
The RCE gives even less detail than James' DC.
All it said for the cause was,
"Lysol Poisoning"
and nothing else.
So you're still none the wiser yet on how the tragedy happened.

Karen

Maybe you could get your relative to look in a local newspaper - it might have more details of the incident. I don't know if Cambuslang library hold old papers but it would be worth a try. Otherwise Hamilton library hold the Hamilton Advertiser which might report it.
