This topic is off interest to my family at the moment.
My son gets marrried in a Catholic Church in 3 wks, the priest has asked for proof of his baptism in the Church of Scotland, unfortunately, it doesn't seem to have been noted on his BC and we don't appear to have a Baptismal Certificate either. He was baptised in Edinburgh, so luckily for us I can visit the church on my bank holiday to see if they can ammend his Birth Cert.
My 2 daughters however, have lovely baptismal certificates issued by the Church of Scotland in Zimbawe, this was in 1983 & 4.
I also have a lovely baptism card issued to my parents for my sister in 1956, I think they have one somewhere for myself as well.

Baptismal Certificates
I was born in November 1939 and christened in the church of Scotland the following January.
The Minister obviously forgot the New Year had arrived and in the bottom left hand corner of my BC there is his name, church name, and the date
JANUARY 1939.
So I was christened before I was born according to this.

Lol. That will puzzle future generations when they go looking up your records.
It could be worse though. If he's been a genealogist he may have written 1839. This is something I have a habit of doing. The occassional 100+ year old relative appears in my tree before I notice my mistake or the FTM software warns me of the error.

baptismal
Hi All
Just thought you'd all like to know how we got on re proof of my son's baptism. THEY'VE ONLY GONE AND LOST THE REGISTER!!!!
Now what chance do future generations have of finding out info from Gorgie Parish Church in Edinburgh?
When you read off people's findings on old registers and how well preserved some of them are especially the ones at NAS, you begin to appreciate the efforts by the people involved in the looking after and storing of such things. Thank goodness generations gone by had the fortitude to look after them whilst in their charge too.

That's a real pain Bertha, I can only sympathise. It's strange how the diocese differ. I was married in Perth as a non-catholic and as such my wife and I needed to get a letter of approval from the local church in Blantyre. Thankfully I didn't need a baptismal certificate because I don't have one.
Weddings are stressful enough so I hope a soultion of some common sense on the part of the church can be found to put your mind at rest and leave you to concentrate on all the other stuff.
Best of luck.
