Brilliant, thank you all, imagine finding a place name in Ireland to continue the search, what a find!
Andrew, the birth year is 1880, the 0 just looks like a 5.
Another question has come out of this search, perhaps someone could answer.
Sarah Alcorn married Alexander McNeill on 2nd April 1900 at Greenock. On the 1901 census, (65 Belville St Cartsburn, Greenock) Sarah's name is numerated as Mary, its the correct family, Sarah's father John Alcorn is living with the family.
Can anyone enlighten me on why Sarah would be called Mary?
Kathy

Thanks Andy, that was the 1881 census, I did get that on SP last evening, but thankyou for going to the bother of listing it for me.
AndrewP - I checked on Catherine 1868, Joseph 1873, they are the same family, I had left John 1871 till last but ran out of credits, I do already have a John 1876, I will check the previous John when next I have credits.

I would suspect that you also have another certificate to add to your "to do" list. There is a strong possibility that there will be a death certificate there for 1871 John at some time between 1871 and 1876.Kathy wrote:AndrewP - I checked on Catherine 1868, Joseph 1873, they are the same family, I had left John 1871 till last but ran out of credits, I do already have a John 1876, I will check the previous John when next I have credits.
Also it may be worth checkig for a death certificate for Catherine 1868 between 1868 and 1881, given her absence from the family in 1881. However at age 13 she could already be away from home working in service.
I found the three children on the IGI by doing a "parent search" (inputting only the parents' names and "British Isles"). On that basis, I am confident that John 1871 is of the same family.
All the best,
AndrewP

Hi AndrewP
I was thinking the original John, if a child of the family, must have died prior to the birth of John 1876, a custom that makes it easier for family research, but as the hurt of loosing a child would be so great, not something I could do. I will also try to follow up on Catherine.
You mention doing a parent search on IGI, do you mean familysearch (LDS) or is there another IGI online?
