Hi Davie
The family Thomas and James are with seems to be Russel. I have a hunch (don't we all!) that the wife might be the boys' aunt, i.e. nee a Samson.

Re the Darcy connection, it could well be that Thomas and James had more siblings. I wish I could get to a FRC to look at the Kilmarnock birth records on film or CD. LDS and Chilean registry office seem to have a feud going on and the general public has been banned from the FRC... argh!!

This is getting exciting - I have been contacted by one of James' descendants in Australia (through TS). It would be an incredible piece of luck if your friend turns up with more info. Fingers crossed!
Thanks for all your help and please continue to write in "Scottish" LOL

Greetin’s Carmen,
Frae a braw day in the sou’side o’ Glesga.
A wummin’s intuition right enough!
The Jane or Jean Russell, nee Samson, certainly looks like a rellie of the two Samson boys.
John Russell, Married to Jane Samson, Old Cumnock, 1824.
There are 42 Samson births on the OPR for Kilmarnock.
The last one, in 1821.
