Hi thomsos

By all means post the problematic images on TS, and we will do our very best amongst the various expert members of TS to assist in the interpretation of the images concerned, but it is always open to anyone who has paid for and downloaded an image from TalkingScot where the quality of the image means that it is difficult to read, for whatever reason, - the hand, the faint quality of the image, etc., etc., - to contact ScotlandsPeople (ScotlandonLine) or GROS direct, and request a photocopy of the original register entry, where there are such difficulties.

Most often, it will be the case that such a photocopy will be easier to interpret.

Hi Thomsos

Told you that quick service was normal :D

I agree with andrew and Lesley.
I would even go as far as take away the (?) for Coulter.

Oddly I was just looking at a marriage cert for 1856 for a girl from Croston Farm Maybole as you were busy posting your problems.

A case of 23 year old dairymaid marries 63 year old farmer. I bet it was the other way round. He needed someone to look after his kids.

Simply put, if you have an image which is genuinely difficult to read because of the quality of the image available from ScotlandsPeople, then please don't hesitate to seek assistance from GROS in terms of a potentially better photocopy.

The images on ScotlandsPeople were produced by digitisation of the microfims of the registers. It can often be the case that an individual photocopy produced from the microfilms is of better quality than the digitised image.

When the quality of the SP image is OK, but the hand is difficult, GROS will also often consider that it is appropriate to supply a photocopy, since the resultant better quality can sometimes make interpretation a bit easier.

All that written, it can often be the case that the combined expertise available here on TalkingScot can provide the answer !!
