Perhaps the minister who performed the marriage was a friend of one of the families - or the previous minister at one of their churches who baptised one of them. Worth a look at Fasti possibly.

Hi Frances ,
I have copies of 2 proclamations of banns for my grandparents - one at Colinton Church , one at St. Christopher, Craigentinny. My grandparents were actually married at Greenside parish church, by the minister there. My granny was from Longstone which was previously in Colinton (but on the proclamation it says Longstone came under Haymarket ?

My grandfather hadn't been long in Craigentinny - Greenside would have been close to his previous address . My father was baptised at Greenside some years later - even though by then the family had moved yet further away. I guess Greenside was just the "family church" , whereas Colinton and St Christopher's were the official ones for their places of residence and that was why banns were proclaimed there ?

The Colinton Proclamation is signed by the minister there, the St Christopher's one by the session clark there. On both of the proclamations there is "Certificate of Marriage" below - stating the date of marriage etc and signed by the minister of Greenside . I wonder if my grandparents regarded these as official documents ?
