Hi Sheila,
Check out the "Commonly used abbreviations" in the "How to..." section near the top of the main forum page:

It takes a while to get used to all of them!
All the best,
Sarah

So sorry for using abreviations, just becomes a habit, assuming everyone knows what they are. Must keep this in mind for future.
Wains/Bairns = children

Well it seems I'm back to a standstill! I can't find anything on Alexander and Janet other than the parish records that were shared here. - much less any info on Gavin/Jennie/William. It seems we magically appeared here in Canada.
Any ideas where I can search next or what the next step could be?
Thanks everyone - I'm learning so much from each of your posts.
Have a great day!

thank you
Thank you for the Can. Census - and I did find my ancestors listed - however, no mention of emigration. I will continue with my search. Keep the ideas coming - they've been exciting to search.. and appreciate all your help!

When you reach the page with one of your ancestors names on it, you can click on split screen (1901) or split view (1911). This should take you to the actual census form which should give you the year of immigration into Canada. And a lot of other information as well.

Thanks
I was able to find it - yeah! However - my g-grandfather who emigrated died in 1900 - the year before so no emigration info!
Back to the drawing board - lol
Thanks again - it's always exciting to see my ancestors names and the history they bring!
Keep on smiling!
