Brilliant! Thanks very much. I can see it now.
Thanks too for the link to Glasgow Guide street name changes - looks like a useful page.
Many thanks to everyone for all your help.

Re: The mystery street
Hello Lesley,lbathgate wrote:Hi Wilma
Thanks for looking those up.
I'm sure, like a lot of these things, it will eventually come out in the wash!
"Margaret" looked a very likely contender for the first bit too...
I'm almost tempted to contact SP and ask if a clearer copy could be provided, but half the problem is the awful handwriting which is not their fault at all! I'm not convinced that seeing it any bigger or with less "noise" would make a jot of difference.
Thanks for your help

I have reported an illegible image to SP a couple of times in the past and been sent a photocopy of the page. In both cases the photocopy was as clear as a bell.
I would give it a go if I were you although I am sure everone is right about Margaret Street.

Hi Annette
Yes, I've done the same a few times - usually when the image was so faint it was completely illegible. They were really helpful I'd have to say ...and they sent them A3 size which was a treat as I usually print out A4!
I think Margaret Street looks pretty convincing too, and think I'll settle with that, especially now its been located on map.
Thanks for all your help

Well all here is my pennies worth.
It definately looks like Margaret street to me, have a look at the formation of the "g" in Margaret and compare it to the second "g" in Glasgow, they are formed the same way.
But you are right combined with the poor copy and the handwriting it is difficult to read

Wilma, Stew,
Thanks for your thoughts and comments.
I'm happy with Margaret Street - the more you look at it the more that would seem to be it. You are right about the descending g, Stew- it does resemble the one in Glasgow.
Shame it seems to no longer exist but at least I know its location which is half the battle - its not just a mystery name anymore.
Many thanks to everyone who helped out!
Best wishes
