Hi John
Their first child John Alexander Rae b19 Feb 1873 Hutchesontown, died 1935 Amersham Buckingham.
Their Second child Louis b1874 Central District Glasgow, died 1876 Anderston.
Their Third child Elizabeth b 1877 Hamilton, died Bolton Lancashire 1947. It is her Son who is still living age 93 in Lancashire.
Their fourth child Mary Ann b1879 Hamilton. Went to Canada died there.
Their is no record of them after this on any census.
Louis married Mary McDonald Calton 1887, it was after this I understand they went to Ireland, where my Grandfather Francis, & Sister Mary where born.
Then they turned up in Lancashire on the 1901 cencus as ROE, no sign of Mary the 2 nd wife. Louis is a widower again, and he died in Bolton 1908.
Hope this helps.
Thanks for you help John
Regards
Trish

Can't find death records
John
I missed out a child of Louis and Mary McDonald, they had a Son Louis in 1889 at St Rollox, he died 1889 age 6 months. St Rollox.
So they where in Scotland till 1889.
Thanks again
Trish

Re: can't find a death
Hello Trish,
a very frustrating family. There is no sign of Louis Rae (all spelling variations) in any available UK census before 1901, and no death of either parent in Scotland. His children with Elizabeth can not be found anywhere, even John Alexander Rae, who I suspect married Jane Rothwell in the Bolton area in the June quarter of 1901 (i.e. around census time).
There is no likely death of Elizabeth Rae, ms Agnew, in Scotland for 1879-1887. The likelihood is that she died towards the end of that period, since a widower with a young family would try to remarry quickly.
The Irish connection looks the strongest possibility, and it looks likely that Lewis travelled to and from Ireland more frequently than suspected. Despite the evidence of a 7-8 year old, remembered by a 93-year old (with the best will in the world, that has to be unreliable), I suspect that she died in Ireland.
Regards,
John

Hi Trish
Just to go back to Margaret and the frustrations of not finding any death record for the period 1851 to 1854. I had the same problem with a couple of my ancestors.
I had 2 great-great-aunts for whom I have found no death records. Barbara was born in 1840 and died in 1851 and Christina was born in 1846 and died in 1853. Barbara appeared in the 1841 census and both Barbara and Christina appeared in the 1851 census. After that - nothing!
I was very lucky to find their grave in Prestonpans last year when on a weekend trip to Edinburgh - they are buried with their father and mother, so I knew I had found the right grave. That's also how I know their dates of death. Not so easy for you of course to find Margaret's grave as you live so far away!
I hope it helps to know that you aren't the only one to have had this particular problem.
Best wishes
Claudette

Re: Can't find death records
As you can see I am going back over some old post's of mine.
Just to update-I have found the death of Elizabeth Rae nee Agnew. She died in Youghall Ireland. I was sent 4 testimonials for Louis all working in Ireland which accounted for his missing years in Scotland, looked for deaths for both wives and found Elizabeth. Great news
Still haven't found the death of Mary Rae nee McDonald 2nd wife but still looking.
Thanks all-Trish
