Hi Maureen,

the IGI site also has a birth to this pair of a THOMAS BROWN 1809 in Sorn??
Oh dear...
The Mary Brown in 1851 was born in Old Cumnock, Ayr. In 1841 she is in Old Cumnock, age 2, with (among other siblings) a sister Euphemia, which figures. Her mother is alone with the children, so I'm afraid Thomas (if it was indeed Thomas) has already died.
It was a good idea though!
There is a submission for a marriage between Thomas Brown and Catherine Fergusson on 10 Apr 1829 in Old Cumnock. Looks like it could be correct. However, if Euphemia was born around 1790 and Thomas not until 1809... surely there were a few more in between?
Regards,
Sarah

Hi all
Any chance of any siblings who may have died and a clearer hand on their death entries?
...though I'm sure you coudl spend a fortune looking for the death of one Thomas Brown:
THOMAS BROWN (IGI)
Event(s):
Birth: 12 OCT 1809 Sorn, Ayr, Scotland
Parents:
Father: JOHN BROWN
Mother: JEAN LENNOX
I may be wrong, but I could swear that the word to do with furnishings/furniture, if indeed that is what it is, has a dotted "i" joined to a stroke through a "t" in the middle of the word, which means it could be "furniture", but not "furnishing".
Best wishes
Lesley

I've been working on this for the past hour

I'm leaning towards a Hugh, since Thomas went and died on us too soon. But I'm not sure enough yet to fork over the cash
Cheers,
Sarah

Trying to think sideways now:
Furrier? Farrier? Forrester? Ferrier?
Could that even be three words...F___ at House? I don't think it is "at" but not even sure there are only two words there....
Could it even be the name of a "big house" e.g. Ferrietart House M_____ (last word would be occupation)
Does the OPR marriage give any occupation for him?

Sarah,
Maybe it isn't an occupation. Maybe it's just an identifier.

Hi Annette,
It was too big and wouldn't upload, so I converted it. I could chop a piece off maybe-- would that work?

Sarah
