Hi there Jack,I hadn't been well for over a week, nasty cold left me feeling very tired.I'ts taken me a wee while to catch up on back posts
Thanks a lot for further info.
On Archie's MC it didn't say widower it said bachelor, could not find DC for Thomas, and no sign of Cath Duncanson Seaton's birth in Rothesay. However i got a birth for Thom Seaton in parish of Cummertrees?in OPRs/from marraige of John Seaton/McWhinnie.No images.I'm still searching on marraiges for rest of family.By the way Jack,i got the 1839 and 1781 Paisley maps for about £3 when i was at Main Library for Catriona.Aren't they brill?Staff were very helpful regarding poorlaw books,so i'll have to take a wee dauner up again, and see what i can find about my mums side of family. Thanks again Jack, Cheers Nancy.

Hi Nancy,
Glad to hear you're back to good health
And that you've got the old maps - they are quite excellent.
Details on the 1839 map are basically what Paisley was still like over a 100yrs later; useful for following the rellies about the centre of town.
But many changes in the last 50+yrs (and not for the better!).
I'll have a look at that Glasgow Poor Law record of Catherine (DUNCANSON) SEATON anyway - best to eliminate it for sure.
Jack

I think you should look at the 1859 marriage (registered 1860).
Your hubby's G-GF did marry Catherine DUNCANSON before Margaret REID.
Archibald may have been a widower (i've doubts on this), but he certainly wasn't a bachelor in 1865!
That 1863 Glasgow Poor Law record for Catherine DUNCANSON states her hubby is Archibald SEATON, shoemaker - son of Thomas SEATON & Jane McCURDIE.
Will send you it as soon as i'm able to.
Jack

I assume you mean the 12 Newton Road addresss Nancy ?nancy wrote:Hi Jack, any idea what this dwelling in Erskine would be?It seems to be mostly young ones in it,so where would their parents be?Cheers Nancy.
It was actually in Bishopton rather than where we now have Erskine. Newton Road is still there. Just about where Greenock Road and Old Greenock Road cross over at the Western edge of the village.
In a 1860's map a School and a Free Church, a school and a Manse are all marked.
So I'd imagine it was some sort of Boarding school or where children from outlying areas lodged.
Have a look at multimap for Newton Road, then at Bishopton on old-maps.

Hi Nancy,
Like Wilma, i'm thinking boarding house too, and possibly on a Paisley Council approved list of them?
Also thinking the children could be orphans, or have no parents / relatives able to care for them.
Might be worth checking the poor law indexes at the Paisley Library on the off-chance they are in them.
We know father Archibald died in Glasgow 1891, but what about mother Margaret REID? (i can't see her on the 1881 census).
Can't see son Archibald either - possibly died young?

Hi Wilma and Jack, and many thanks for help. We'll take a wee drive out to Bishopton/Erskine at weekend and have a wee look. Does it look to you as though children are in care?In Renfrews and Dunbartons. I see you are Falkirk area Wilma, maybe you could help me here? I have THOMAS SEATON 32 in 1901 census at 1 WEST JOHN ST FALKIRK wife MARY DEAKIN 33 and daug ANNIE 1. ANNIE was born at 1BOYD ST. Parish of Grahamston. Are these adds still there or has there been a lot of change, just like Paisley? By the way Jack,i wondered if Row Dunbarton, might be childrens home, and sure enough Rhu was the new spelling.Well they say you learn something new everyday! Thanks again, Cheers Nancy.
