what on earth though is a Doctor of Divinity?? That sounds rather more interesting than 'minister'!!
And the answer is Yes, I did check earlier census returns for g.granny and she does appear on census with parents as named in death cert.! you just still wonder a wee bit though if you have got it right.
Bye for now!

"Doctor of Divinity" bears the same relationship to an "ordinary" BA or MA in theological subjects, as does a Ph.D. in relation to a B.Sc., B.Eng., etc., in other subjects.

Hi Elmca,
One outside possibility is you've the wrong MC... and that there are 2 girls of the same name & age etc.
But that aside did any known siblings have the same parents as great granny's DC?
Only trying to put your mind at ease!

Thanks David.
Jack - yes I have the correct marriage cert as it is def my g.grandfather on it. From the census after g.granny's marriage her place of birth ties in with earlier census returns with the parents named on death cert. Hope that makes sense! From what I have been told I rather think g.granny did not have much to do with her parents hence the misleading info on the cert. That is my feeling on the matter anyway. My concern now is that my g.g.grandparents were Irish and although I have luckily managed to find a copy of their catholic marriage in Portobello 1850, and both their death certs naming their parents, I now have no idea how to go about finding more, such as where about in ireland they came from as I doubt they were from the north. Another wee puzzle for me to ponder over
Researching these names (and more)..
Gibb (Ayr/Lanark/Edinburgh)
Sommerville (Lanarkshire)
Young (Lothian & Borders/Fife)
Crease (Edinburgh)

Thanks Elmca,
Now i can rest easy too! i'd felt that you just weren't 100% sure.
As for Ireland - here on TS there's the Irish Board.
