Crikes, does that "fourth" really say "tenth"? :?
The birth before says 14th, the birth after says 6th - no clues there.

The handwriting is truly dire! :D

Best wishes

You must be thinking your going mad tonight with all the replies !!

Take a deep breath sign on to www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk and sign in. When they send you a confirmation number or ID get your plastic out and spend £6 English pounds and put in the search box George Fawcet birth year 1880- you should find him

Good Luck

That's because the entries are in date order of registration...........

Actually the handwriting isn't that bad, aprt from his capital "T"s, "F"s, and even "S"s, ..... it's the quality of the microfiche and subsequent image together, perhaps, with some fading of the ink.....

Taking up on Andrew's point the 1891 census entry for this family fromthe 1881 census shows George's place of birth as "Renfrew, Paisley" .... which, given the way that this enumerator shows the county first, then the parish has to mean Paisley in the county of Renfrew, i.e. in Renfrewshire.

Have a look at the "T" in Thomas on the record below
Aye, but have a look at the "Fourteenth" above....
and there's a space for the "r" even if it is not visible - a contact form followed by a clear copy from SP would, I hope, clarify this one - it could go either way.

Place your bets now!!

Thank you all for this information. :D :-k This is my first attempt (with success) to find my grandfather. It will take me some time but I will "get out the plastic" Tracey, and I will look at the handwriting Andrew.........
Lesley - looks like I may have a much larger family than originally thought.

Thank you all.

Just had to say that!
