Hi Jack
Wow, you HAVE been busy! No wonder your heid's birling! I know how you feel.
Thanks so much for all your efforts - I really appreciate it.
I have a birth certificate for Ralph McTaggart, 27th April, 1856, born (which looks like) BlueCole Street but I suppose this could be Bluevale with James McTaggart, father listed as Private soldier, Lanarkshire Militia. Mother Agnes Mctaggart Maiden name Hall. She died in 1859 in Rose Street.
Another name on the Poor Law record of James Mctaggart was James Wood. I have a birth certificate of a James Wood McTaggart( Illegitimate) born to Peter McTaggart and Hannah Hammil. This would make him James' grandson.
James left the poorhouse in September 1863 but I guess he must have been admitted later as he was there in 1871 and died there in 1873.
As Alice would say - It gets curiouser and curiouser!
I'll go and see if I can get my head round all this information and see what I can figure out.
Thanks again,
Linda

Hall family
Hi Jack
Some more confusion from this Hall family:
Ralph Hall married Margaret Chalmers 26/8/1815 Kilbarchan
Ralph Hall married Catherine Logan Barony 15/5/1836 Barony
Joseph Hall was born Kilbarchan 15/03/1818 to Ralph and Margaret Chalmers
William Hall was born Barony 13/10/1822 to Ralph and MargaretChalmers child 4
I'l continue to work through the information you gave me.
Still looking for the others but will have to call it a night.
Linda

Re the Hall family
Hi Linda,
Although James McTAGGART died in the P House 1873, some records are, alas, missing.
The John WOODS mentioned on James' 1863 record could be the householder or factor, and name may be WOOD.
(apostrophes are often missed out on P Law records - maybe meant to say John WOOD's ?)
==
You have these births from the IGI - parents Ralph HALL & Margaret CHALMERS.
I'm still wondering if Agnes was known as Catherine when younger,
but rebelled when she married, and changed it back to Agnes!
(an Agnes should be with Ralph & Catherine in 1841 at least, but there's only Cathrin of the right age, likewise in 1851)

MARGARET HALL - Birth: 21 SEP 1816 Kilbarchan, Renfrew, Scotland
JOSEPH HALL - Birth: 15 MAR 1818 Kilbarchan, Renfrew, Scotland
MARGARET HALL - Birth: 27 JUL 1820 Kilbarchan, Renfrew, Scotland
WILLIAM HALL - Birth: 27 AUG 1822; Christening: 13 OCT 1822 Barony, Lanark, Scotland
ELISABETH HALL - Birth: 14 JUL 1824; Christening: 08 AUG 1824 Barony, Lanark, Scotland
AGNES TEALL - Birth: 13 NOV 1826; Christening: 26 NOV 1826 Barony, Lanark, Scotland
--
It does appear that Ralph HALL married twice - his DC might show he did.
I'm now wondering if Catherine LOGAN was a widow (with children?) when she married Ralph in 1836?
You already have daur Agnes' DC, and her mother's name was as unknown, so next step would be to look for her siblings DCs.
Joseph, Margaret & Elizabeth should show their mother was Margaret CHALMERS, and not Catherine LOGAN,
(Joseph's shd be easiest to find - we don't as yet know Margaret's & Elizabeth's married names...)
(no mention of son William in the 1858 record - poss died between 1841-1851?)
The 1858 P Law didn't actually say Catherine Logan was their mother, just that they were Ralph's children, with Catherine as his wife.
But still many problems on who's who in the censuses!
Jack

ps, just to eliminate them - these might be the HALL children that were with Margt. GIBSON in 1841 (her nieces?).
AGNES HALL: Birth: 16 MAR 1834 Christening: 25 MAY 1839 Barony, Lanark, Scotland
MARGARET HALL - Christening: 25 MAY 1836 Barony, Lanark, Scotland
Parents: GEORGE HALL & MARY GIBSON.

Re the Hall family
Hi Linda,
Here's Agnes' details from the OPR - it's quite clear as TEALL, but says 5th child...just another error?
Or was maybe meant to mean be living children?
It'd be really stretching things for a Ralph HALL and a Ralph TEALL both to be married to a Margaret CHALMERS!
--
OPR 622-8 p 268. Births & Baptisms Barony, November 1826.
TEALL - Ralph TEALL, cotton spinner, Calton & Margaret CHALMERS,
had their 5th child b. 13th, bapd. 26th named Agnes.
Alexander KERR? & James DUNLOP, witnesses.

Hi Jack
Have just noticed your post. Thanks for that. Who would ever have thought to look for Agnes as Teall! Tomorrow I'll see if I can find Ralph's death certificate.
Thanks again for your help.

Re: Help with birth record.....
Hello Linda, I have only just found your quest in search of any info. in respect of Annie McTaggart your grand mother. My maiden name is Anne Bellingham. I am certain that you are my cousin. I am Jessie's daughter. This means, you are the daughter of uncle James and auntie Jessie. You have a two brothers. I think, if I am correct, you will contact me. My email address is ann-bellinghamATbtconnect.com. Our grand mother was not born in Glasgow. X
