At the top of the column in the printed part of the certificate, it states
"relationship if any" However, like Nelmit, this is the first time I have ever seen "no relationship" used. the marriage entry above only mentioned their marital staus i.e single
The only other consideration that maybe involved is that they were step brother and sister with no blood relationship. although, the names do not signify any such relationship.
The relationship to Robert and Jean stumps me, that needs to be pursued.

That may well be that they were step brother and sister with no blood relation but i dont think so as Janet Maxwell's parents were George Maxwell and Margaret Steedman. One of their daughters was called Georgina Maxwell Law Lindsay, obviously after Janet's father and the law must have come from Jean Law,but then why did they put Law into her name after naming her after her father.

Does anyone think maybe James wasnt called Lindsay at birth he may have been illegitemate and was maybe Jean's son and was called Law.His father maybe claimed paternity later and his name was changed to Lindsay. There is a James Law born in Markinch (Jeans place of birth)but no date of birth or no parents names.Still trying to find his death certificate with no luck.

James's birth did not have to be registered at all as he was born before statutory records were introduced.
There may be something in the Kirk Session records which are usually stored in a main library. Hopefully someone more familiar with the area will be able to tell you who to contact.
I also think the 1841 census should help but that may be some time coming.
I can't find the James Law born in Markinch.

I think i have made a mistake with Jean Law's D.O.B. i think she was born in Markinch on 27/6/1816,parents were James Law and Elspeth Allan. That would have made her around 25 when James Lindsay was born so he probably was her illegitemate son.

Death Certificate
I have been back on Scotlandspeople tonight trying to find James Lindsay's death certificate and yet again no success.I did find his daughter Georgina Law Maxwell Lindsay's death. She died on 19/11/1869 aged 4 months,on this certificate there is no cause of death thats the first time i have ever seen that, has anyone come across that before.I always thought it was law that the cause of death be on the death certificate.
