The census stuff is from Ancestry.co.uk
It is a subscription site but I think you can still do a free trial period, although I don't know what that will give you access to.
They have transcripts of all the Scottish censuses, but not the images.
I'm stuck....maybe someone can help?

Best I can do...
Dec 19th
James Thomson in ?Pishinlin? had his son George baptised
Witnesses were David Kinnear, tenant in Mains of Drum and David Milne, smith at ?Glenfarq?
I always try to find out if witnesses (like Messrs Kinnear and Milne here) might have married females of the family. I've found a few previously unknown siblings this way.

I would guess Glenfarquhar since it is written in full in the first entry on the page.
As for
It might be possible to locate a farm or steading of that name - or similar - on old-maps .co.uk . some of the other names on the page might also show up. ( Sorry I couldn't look it up for you but 'flu has addled my concentration)

Sorry for blowing right past your question to me on this one
The 1851 census data I obtained from Ancestry after viewing the DC of who I strongly believed to be James's mother Ann Thomson mn BIRNIE. When I didn't find a James with her I fell back to the same household in 1841 where there is a James that fits the profile of your James. Also there is what appears to be parents of George and Ann and several offspring. Since no family relationships are stated on the 1841 it's an assumption they were all children of George and Ann. I obtained the listing of these folks from ancestry.com also by viewing all people found on that census page. The originals as well as the DC for Ann are all available via pay per view on Scotlandspeople but I haven't accessed them except for the DC which gave me the info I needed to work backwards to this point. George is not listed on the 1851 as I believe he was deceased by then.
Hope this was helpful
Best wishes
Jean

Hi Anihana,
Pishinglins can be found on the 1822 map at:
http://www.nls.uk/maps/early/483.html
Click on the thumbnail image of the map of Kincardineshire.
Click in the centre of the map.
Fordoun Parish should be towards the bottom left of that map section - click on it to zoom in.
Zoom in on the gap between the words Fordoun and parish.
Look at the place names above that gap.
Pishinglins is amongst these, just above Glenfarquhar Mains.
Or if you are having trouble locating it:
--> close up of 1822 map <--
All the best,

Hi Anihana
I was looking through the posts for St.Cyrus and saw yours. I know it's a few months old but I found something that may help.
I have a copy, from the Church Records, of a census the minister did in 1798-1799.
At this time at Whitehill in the Parish of St.Cyrus was this familly.
James Thomson Labour
Mary Alexander Wife
William Thomson Children
Janice Thomson Children
There were four other famillies at Whitehill,
Alexander-Rae-Burness & Beattie
Hope this is of some help.

Interesting.....so if I were to link that with what I have so far I might think that could be George's mother, father, brother, and sister!?
I can't for the life of me work out hos to get past George & Ann. I can't find either of their BIRTH or Marriage records
Cheers

I can't think how this might help me go backwards though
