\:D/ Looks like it to me!! If there are parts of the certificate you're having trouble reading, go ahead and post it in the gallery and let others give it a try.

There is this intriguing household in 1851, on Carrick St :D Note the surname of the niece:

Carrick Street No 9, Ayr, Ayr
Jane Moor, 63, Head, born Ireland
Mary Moor, 16, Son(!), born Ayr, Ayrshire, Sewer
Jane Park, 15, Niece, born Kirkoswald, Ayrshire, Sewer
Jane McAdam, 31, Lodger, born Ireland, Out Door Or Ag Labourer
Flora McAdam, 5, Lodger, born Ireland, Scholar

Now we see where the born Ireland came in. Perhaps both James' parents were born there. If Jane was still alive at the time of James' second marriage, then you should be able to get her death certificate and verify her husband's name and occupation. With luck, it will be James who signs as informant.

You're definitely making progress! :D

They may well have been married in Ireland before coming over. But in any case, Scotland's People seems to be having some trouble today. I haven't been able to get any results since early this morning :(

oh dear , just looking at what i can see if the head of household is jane park then her dob would be abt 1788 and james was born 1822.

Yes, if the 1851 census I found is Jane Park Muir, and it seems likely because of the surname of the niece, then she would have been born around 1788. I was hoping that she lived at least another 4 years, so that her death would be registered and findable on Scotland's People. But, as I said, the site is "temporarily unavailable" :?

In the meantime, the niece is looking like the right family:

Jane Park appears on the IGI, born 11 Feb 1836 in Kirkoswald, Ayr
Father: Robert Park
Mother: Jean Rodger

She is with her parents in Kirkoswald in 1841. Her father Robert looks like a good candidate for Jane Park Muir's brother, having also been born in Ireland:

1841
Roan, Kirkoswald, Ayrshire
Robert Park, 30, born Ireland, Banksman
Jane Park, 35, born Ayrshire
Agnes Park, 8, born Ayrshire
Jane Park, 5, born Ayrshire
Robert Park, 3, born Ayrshire
Mary Park, 1, born Ayrshire

Banksman....... . .  Mine worker at pithead unloading coal from the cages

All the best,
Sarah
