Charlotte Kay Death 1882

I have uploaded Charlotte Kay's d.c. to the gallery.

Her name was Charlotte Kay so I don't know what the word is after her Surname, Kay

Anyone help?

Looks like Portioner to me, so it is given as an "occupation" of sorts. My broad understanding of portioner is that it means she had a small amount of land to farm - I think possibly rented. Must go look it up!

portioner
a proprietor who held only a small piece of land; heirs portioners were women who succeeded jointly to property

So looks like ownership, rather than rental, was more likely.

None of mine ever had property as far as I can find out. Makes me just a touch green when other folk discover a 'touch of class' in their ancestry.
