Hi all,
My family in Scotland is not all that forthcoming in forwarding me documents or anything else to do with family history so I need to purchase my grandfather's death registration for proof of death in order to obtain his war records. At the GRO site, it seems I can order an extract, but I was hoping for the full death certificate (because I am a stickler for detail). Does anyone know if there a way to obtain it?
Nina

Re: From the GRO
As far as I am aware a full certificate can only be purchased at registration.ninatoo wrote:Hi all,

The extract should give you all the info you need.
I'm sure somebody else will clarify this.

Hi Nina,
If the certificate is this side of the date limits used on ScotlandsPeople then a visitor to New Register House could view the original certificate onscreen, but could not print it. The print button does not work for these more recent years. If a visitor to NRH wants a copy of the more recent certificate, they have to order an extract in the same manner as would be done by yourself.

What I don't know is what information excluded when an extract is issued.
The extract that I have of my birth certificate is a typed copy, showing all of the infomation that is on the original certificate. However I am not sure if that is still the case 40+ years on.
All the best,
AndrewP

Hi Nelmit and Andrew,
Thanks for the quick responses. Granda died last year. I was wondering exactly what information is on the extract. If it the same as on the original registration then that is fine. If anyone knows any different, please jump in brfore tomorrow, when I will go ahead and order it!

Darn it! I see I have to post the application!
I wonder why we can't apply online, especially when I know it is possible over the border!
Getting that extract is going to take a few weeks at least! OH to be in Glasgow! Well now, nothing to do but fill out the form, post it and wait!
Thanks again.

In that case order it directly from Glasgow if that's where the death was registered.ninatoo wrote:Darn it! I see I have to post the application!I wonder why we can't apply online, especially when I know it is possible over the border!
