Hi Tricia
Because your gr gr granny died before 1855, the year when statutory registration began, there will not be a death certificate to find.
WHERE WOULD I FIND INFO ON THE HOSPITAL.
ALSO WHICH CEMETARY WOULD THIS BE PLEASE
Does the Ayrshire Burials Index not give information on which OPR or in which cemetery the information was found?

Best wishes
Lesley

Hi Lesley

Sorry in the delay answering your post.

No- the only thing on the MI is exactly as I put in my post, no mention of which hospital except she died there 10 Oct 1853, buried 12 Oct 1853.

I have re-checked the MI and it is listed in the AYR Parish. On the 1851 cencus their address was "258 Back House" Ayr, not sure if "Back House" is a St, Lane, Road, it doesn't say.

I know their religion was RC so that may help with the burial place :?: I know that husband James moved the family back to Stranrear shortly after Margarets death where his Mother was still living, as this was where young Andrew died age 10,1855, death certificate stated resident 18 months

If I could get an idea of her burial place it would be great, I have looked at all the postings for cemetary's but the names don't mean anything to me, the ones for Ayr are North East South West.
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks again
Tricia

I know this post is 3 years old, but I am wondering if anyone may give me any clues as to where and which cemetery she may be buried.

Thanks-Trish :)

I've not seen the CD, but given that it is a "burial index" does it not give the parish of burial, so that you would then be able to work out in which churchyard she was buried?
Deaths & burials from the OPRs (with details of dates covered) for the parishes of: Auchinleck, Ayr, Ballantrae, Coylton, Dailly, Dalrymple, Girvan, Kirkmichael, Kirkoswald, Mauchline, Maybole, Muirkirk, Newton, Ochiltree, Old Cumnock, Stair, Straiton, Tarbolton.

You have stated that the record says Auchinlick, so it looks to me like you should be looking at Auchinleck churchyard.

Later - just noticed you said it was in Ayr and that they were RC, so I'm a bit confused now. The info on the CD should tell you WHICH PARISH it was and that will be where she is buried, though I'm not sure I've seen RC burials mentioned in an OPR before....

Thanks Lesley for the reply. No it doesn't say. what I have written is exactly what the record said, and it is the Troons CD which I have. It would just be nice to be able to close this link by knowing where she is buried, but it may be that I will never know, not terribly important I guess.

Thanks-Trish :)

Hi Trish,

During the time since you posted the original request, the OPR burials have come online on ScotlandsPeople. Your Margaret is there, in Ayr parish. It looks like the info on the CD came from the burial OPR.

All the best,

AndrewP

Thanks Andrew & everyone else for their help with this. I guess Andrew it will say just the same as the disc ? or is it worth paying to have a look at the OPR record.

Thanks-Trish :)
