Identifying Residences, Names etc

Post by ColinWH » Sun Oct 28, 2007 7:42 pm

Evening,
As a new member, I have uploaded a file to my user Gallery,

http://talkingscot.com/gallery/displayi ... ?pos=-1418

Since found it's in the wrong place, (should have been in the Certs section?) as I wanted help working out the following:
Usual Residence.
Brides' Mothers' Name.

Many thanks for any help you could give.

Colin

Hi Colin
[scotland-flag]
And a warm welcome to TalkingScot. Glad you decided to join us in what can prove to be some fascinating quests for our long lost rellies.

Your image has come out as a miniature :(
When you post again to the main Gallery use a TIFF image (as it comes from scotlandspeople) or a JPEG which has not lost too much of its detail.
That way we all can take a look at it and reach a consensus. We have quite a few members who are skilled at reading some of the most impossible scrawls or faded images.
You will have to wait until one of the Admin bods approves and posts the image up. (this is just a security measure)

Working on: Oman, Brock, Miller/Millar, in Caithness.
Roan/Rowan, Hastings, Sharp, Lapraik in Ayr & Kirkcudbrightshire.
Johnston, Reside, Lyle all over the place !

Watson, Morton, Anderson, Tawse, in Kilrenny

Hi Colin,

I'd go for Helen McLeod, M.S. Munro.

It would be worth seeking her birth certificate and/or the parents' marriage certificate to verify that.

On looking at ScotlandsPeople, I checked for the birth of Christ* Ann* M*cLeod 1886 to 1892 and that produced 12 results. Most are in the Outer Hebrides, Skye or the west coast of Inverness-shire or Ross & Cromarty. One is in Aberdeenshire. I know where I would be placing my money first, given the location on the certificate you uploaded.

All the best,

AndrewP

I'd agree with Andrew on Helen and I think the bride stayed at Blindburn Croft.

Looks like Walter and Helen married in 1875 and here is Helen (who was born in the magic year of 1855 :D ) in 1881.

Evening,
Very many thanks to you all for your help.
I have three Certificates, and all of them are difficult to decipher!
At least now, I can continue with this one and as suggested, a birth certificate will be the next step.

Again,

Thank you all.

Colin
