William and Sarah had 6 children, on each of their birth certificates the parents marriage is given as either June or August 1858 in Coatbridge.
Can find no record of this marriage on SP

-any suggestions as to why this should be would be very welcome.

Hi Frances,
No sign of the marriage on the IGI either. Maybe the marriage was irregular and never declared to be registered?
All the best,

Thanks Andrew,
The family were Catholics, does this have any bearing on not being able to find them?.

From 1855 their religion should make no difference.
Previous to 1855, the difference would have been that the OPRs were dominantly a record of (Established) Church of Scotland events, so records of those of other religions are often more difficult to find in that era.
All the best,
