Hi Smid,

I would go for 28 Glenburn Street, Glasgow. It's not a lot clearer on the RCE, which unfortunately was written up by the same registrar.

All the best,

AndrewP

Thanks Andrew
The best we could come up with was Glenbervie ! will have to have a look at an old Glasgow map and see if there is a match.

James S Bruce DC

Hi Smid and Andrew,

I'm wondering if it could be Blenheim Street (east off Springburn Rd).
This only for the reason that Glenburn Street is in the Maryhill area.
Also the death of William Barclay on the previous cert. has the address of Dykemuir St.
Blenheim & Dykemuir streets are only a few hundred yards apart.

Compare the "B"s of Bruce to the "G"s of Glasgow.
What do you think?
Jack

Hi Smid,

Following Jack's lead of Blenheim Street, was James Smith Bruce at that address for many years? There was a James Smith at that number 28 in the Valuation Roll of 1913-1914.

http://www.theglasgowstory.co.uk/imagev ... =TGSV06034

He is shown as a joiner on the valuation roll, then as a railway loader on his death certificate. Is this the same man?

All the best,

AndrewP

Hi Jack, Andrew & all
The end certainly looks like -heim to me. the dot on the "i" is definately there. But that is one wierd "B" !!

Best wishes
Lesley

Exactly what I thought, Lesley! :D But I assumed Andrew knew his place names and kept my mouth shut... Nice to know I'm not imagining things

Hi Sarah,

I make no claim to know street names beyond my locality. So don't be shy to speak up in future.

All the best,

Andrew

Actually, I was lazy, not shy  I assumed you had checked on a map or googled it or something... which I was too lazy to do!

Hi all

I would definitely go for Blenheim Street.
Look at the B in the Barclay entry immediately above. It's exactly the same.
