I have just uploaded the above file (jpg), to Certs-Help with Deciphering.
Could anyone tell me the place? It appears to be Little ..............
something or other.
Many thanks,
Colin

Hi Colin
The certificate is not showing yet. It will have to be approved by a member of the AG first.
Eagerly awaited though.

Here it is!
http://talkingscot.com/gallery/displayi ... ?pos=-1435
Looks to me like Little Cushny... but my first reaction would be to reach for a map to see if that is a likely representation.
*Note what seems to be the use of Latin - uxor - to denote a wife (dinna tell me this web site is no educayshunul 'n' that!)
I've not seen that usage in that context before.
Best wishes
Lesley

Hi Colin
Prompt service indeed
Thanks Lesley.
Little Cushney or Cushnie in Aberdeenshire.
Actually that is one of the better OPR entries. It looks like a rural parish since most of the places relate to small farms and steadings.
The entry immediately below yours is very interesting since it is in the father's name rather than the mother's. He obviously accepted full responsibility. (I wonder if his arm was twisted up his back at the time
)

Thanks everyone,
I'll have a scout around the old maps on http://www.nls.uk/maps/early/scotland.html
and see what I can find!
In general, the script of this extract is quite impressive, someone must have been quite educated, using the latin for the wife. I wonder what the people who were being written about thought of it.
On a side note, I've always assumed that the McLeods here, are the same as the McLeods of the Western Isles, but I've never had it confirmed.
Again, thanks to you all,
Colin
