I am hoping someone can help me this scenerio .... While looking at the online records at NAS a couple of months ago I found under Records of Fatal Accidents Inquiries a "William Henderson McCracken"
SC6/15/1956/17
Fatal Accident Inquiry: William Henderson McCracken, colliery hopper attendant, 31 Lime Road, New Cumnock, Ayrshire, died on 27 September 1956 in the ambulance room at Knockshinnoch Castle Colliery, parish of New Cumnock, Ayrshire, when he was struck by a derailed hutch of a moving train of hutches
Notes of evidence, petition and warrant, minutes and verdict, loose paper
I sent off an email to GRO as I was not able to find this death on SP. Here is GRO reply:
I can confirm that there IS a death record for a William Henderson
McCracken, dying in New Cumnock in 1956 - this is registered in 1957,
and will appear on the website www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk on the first
of January next year - not long to go now!
However, I have to say, that this William Henderson McCracken died on a
different date to the one you have, although it is in the same area, so
I can only assume it is the correct entry.
I did get a DC on SP yesterday for William Henderson McCracken who died Dec 16. 1957 at Glenafton Hospital, his death was due to Malignant Hypertension and Pulmonary TB, nothing to do with a mining accident, this certificate was registered Dec 17, 1957, his usual residence being 32 Lime Rd, New Cumnock ...
So I am totally confused .... Gro said he died in 1956 but wasn't registered till 1957, that is not what the DC says ?? Also what about NAS record stating death Sept 27, 1956 ????
My head is swirling .... hoping someone can solve this mystery for me !!
Also SP is stating Death Records to 1958, I thought it was 1957 ??? .... and No, I do not have a hangover
