Why is there no Parent Search on SP?

Post by sheilajim » Fri Feb 01, 2008 10:29 pm

Hi All

Does anyone know why there isn't a Parent Search Feature for Statutory Births on Scotland's People. You can search for a child by using the parent's names on the OPR's. Why not the Statutory records too?
It would save us a lot of money if we could put even one parent's name in when we are searching. As it is now, you have to go through a lot of credits to get the one you are looking for.

Sheila

Hi Sheila,

Because GROS's index which forms the base of ScotlandsPeople does not include the parents' names for statutory birth records.

The only data of that sort which is on GROS's records is the mother's maiden surname for births from 1929. One day that may become a search field on ScotlandsPeople. In New Register House, that data is displayed, but is not a searchable field. Maybe one day.

All the best,

AndrewP

Hi Andrew

Thank you for your answer. I had been wondering about this for quite a while.
