Hi to you all,
I am looking for help in deciding which John Purcell is the one i want to download from SP.
He is my husband's gt gt granfather and his parents names which should be on the birth cert are John Purcell and Annie Purcell m.s Gray.
I am undecided, as on his death cert in 1928 he is age 55 - which would make him born 1873 but on his marriage cert he is age 26 in 1904 - that would make him born 1878 c - also i am hoping it may say where in Ireland his parents came from (I live in hope that one day it will be on someone's!)
1 1870 PURCELL JOHN M ANDERSTON GLASGOW CITY/LANARK 644/08 0511
2 1872 PURCELL JOHN M ANDERSTON GLASGOW CITY/LANARK 644/08 2203
3 1872 PURCELL JOHN M MARYHILL GLASGOW CITY/LANARK 622/01 0432
4 1877 PURCELL JOHN M SHOTTS (WESTERN DISTRICT) /LANARK 655/03 0012
5 1873 PURCELL JOHN JAMES M HUTCHESONTOWN GLASGOW CITY/LANARK 644/10 0685
Any help appreciated.

Hi Ailsa,
I take it you didn't look for John on the IGI, if you had, you would see the extract...he was born 3 April 1873

Hi Anne,
You are a star! thanks. My husband insisted you see, there were no middle names so it wouldn't be that one and it was more likely to be Anderston - he was wrong on both counts (my favourite was John James).
I did look on IGI last week but didn't see it - couldn't see the wood for the trees.
As the parents were born in Ireland (from census 1871) i might have to look to see if a place is mentioned.
On another subject i did a search on SP for John Purcell (born 1902) death cert died between 1960 - 1980 age between 55 - 65 and came back with nothing! has anyone else experienced problems since the new searches came in?

Hi Ailsa,
No...I haven't had any problems finding births or deaths on the modern day indexes...my problem is not knowing which one of the many, with same names, would be the one I'm looking for
As for your John Purcell...if you search SP you will only find eight deaths between 1960 - 1980. If you put the birth year of 1902 +1 it comes up with one. I would have a look at the eight if I were you...you might be able to determine which one is yours, if any
Regards,
Anne H
