ScotlandsPeople has David Wilson and Jean Dickson marrying at Dumfries on 21 Nov 1800 but I could find no record of the birth/baptism of their son Thomas. Perhaps his baptism was not entered in the Parish Register as there was a charge made for this, and some parents were unable to afford the fee. The year of birth given in the IGI may have been obtained from the age shown on his death certificate i.e. 18 Jul 1892.

Hello daddyof4,
Welcome to Talking Scot! [talkingscot]
Do you know for certain that David and Jean lived until 1841? If so, then do you have any information that would help recognize them in the census, i.e. occupation, children's names, etc. (although the children would probably all have left home by then, but they might be living with one). Did they stay in Dumfries? With a common name like Wilson, it is impossible to know when you've found the right one without more information... :(

All the best,
Sarah

The LDS recorded only female births at Lochmaben within the time scale of Thomas and David's births.

There is one birth of a Thomas Wilson born 1817 at Lochmaben on SP - have you looked at this?

Hello Rich,

A search on Hugh Wallis’s Middle Name site brings up a Christening on the IGI. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com ... #PageTitle

JEAN DICKSON WILSON
Christening: 21 APR 1811 Lochmaben, Dumfries, Scotland
Extracted birth or christening record for the locality listed in the record.
Batch No.: C118402, 1751 – 1819, Film 1067967:

There are NO parent’s names for this record. I checked a few of the others in this female batch christened around the same time and the non recording of parents names doesn’t appear to have been the usual practice in the Parish.

There’s a chance she may be the sister of your Thomas and might be worth following up. The only other Christening in the batch in the relevant period with Father’s name David is:

JEAN SMITH WILSON
Christening: 19 MAY 1805 Lochmaben, Dumfries, Scotland
Father: DAVID WILSON
Extracted birth or christening record for the locality listed in the record.
Batch No.: C118402, 1751 – 1819, Film 1067967:

There’s nothing obvious in the following 1820-1855 Christening Batch C118404. (Female batch?).

Hope this helps,
Alan
