Lost death and lost 2nd Marriage.....

Post by momat » Sat Jul 02, 2005 11:15 am

:?
I cannot find the Death certificate for my Great Grandmother anywhere!
Name RACHEL JACOB/S ms DIAMOND
She lived in YORKSHIRE from 1880s until death ? Last sighted on 1901 CENSUS.
1923 Death certificate shows Great Grandfather died in GLASGOW and that there was a second marriage. Can't find that either.
ABRAHAM JACOB/S 2nd wife LOTTIE SINCLAIR
Have searched all Yorkshire BMDs and Scotlands People sites also Jewish sites.
Any sugeestions for a Glasgow Lass down under .

Hi Maureen

Where were Abraham and Rachel in 1901? I can find them in Yorkshire in 1891 with son Israel (3) and daughter Annie (1) but can't find them in 1901.

Also remember, when looking for her death, that as well as the possibilty of Jacob and Jacobs you might also find Rachel as Rachael.

Lost Death and 2nd Marriage

Post by momat » Sun Jul 03, 2005 3:33 am

Hello Mary,
Unfortunately you fell into the same trap as I did .That is the wrong Jacob Family.
I have them 1891 & 1901 Census in HULL.Where all but one child was born.
Abraham.
Annie (who is Rachel ) Confusion as she was Annie Rae,see what I mean!. :?
Leah
Rebecca
Sophia
Harry on the 1901 census.
There is confusion over their ages as they only aged 5 years in 10 year span !!!!!!!. :?
I have tried all the spelling of names and no success.I cannot imagine where she was when died.
The family with or without Rachel moved to Glasgow sometime between 1920s.
Still puzzled.

Decided to resume my search on this old brickwall. ](*,)
When the 1911 English census came on line earlier this year I found that Rachel was still alive aged 50, so I wrote away to find a death cert for her and I had no joy.
I have just done a new search on the Yorkshire BMD site and there is one there that states a Rachel Jacobs aged 55 in the quarter for Oct / Nov/ Dec 1913 Hull 9D 318.
Can anyone help with access to Yorkshire records PLEASE. [-o< [-o< [-o<
Can't find a begging smiley.

Hi Maureen

I may be wrong, as I've not researched in England as much as Scotland, but as far as I'm aware, with BMD records for England, you would need to order a copy of the entry to see the full details. Even if you were able to visit a local register office, I think there is still a payment required to view the full certificate, and in some areas it looks as if there is also a charge to enter the office to search, just as there is at GROS.

If there is any other way to see the full details, I'd be really interested to know!

Best wishes
Lesley

Tis the only way I know to get the details also - but remember that there is not alot of information on an English death certificate. For a married woman you usually get the husband's name in the occupation area - but not always. The informant is often the best clue as to having the right person.

I have heard that you can sometimes get information from the district office to confirm that it is the right person, but only (as Lesley says) if you intend to buy the certificate. The reference you have for the death is the GRO reference (same on FreeBDM) so you can order the certificate online from GRO - cost is just over 9 pounds at the minute - includes postage worldwide

Trish

and if you do find an alternative way to find the data, I would be most interested as well. It is becoming easier to get England/Wales marriages from church records which mirror the civil registrations - perhaps looking for a burial might be an option.

I have been searching for her death now for 12 years and have not found a burial anywhere for her either. ](*,)
It would be great if I knew her parents names .
I would willing pay for the document if I know it is her ,so I will probably have to go for it.

Hi Trish & Maureen

Yes, I've done that on a couple of occaisions when tracing Smiths from the Manchester area - you really need some confirmation sometimes that you are on the right track before spending your money, especially with that particular surname in a densly populated city!!

The Manchester office are clearly very busy as it took me a good number of attempts over a couple of days (!) to actually get through successfully, but once I was talking to someone, they were very helpful and were able to confirm that I had the correct entries prior to ordering, by confirming a couple of details I could supply like occupation, name of father on a marriage, likely usual residence address for a death etc. It still cost me money of course, but at least I knew I had the correct certificates before paying up.

Best wishes

:( I'm afraid you won't get that information on an English death certificate.

Best wishes,

Meg
