Minnie ****** - who was she? Any tips
I'm not sure if I'm posting this in the correct part of the forum so apologies if I'm not.
I've been tracing my great-gran's history. Her family are one with many secrets, illegitimate babies and, tbh, downright untruths!
However I cannot find her sister Minnie anywhere. All I know about Minnie is that she had a daughter so I know it's a long shot, but I don't know if I'm missing an obvious place to look.
I've tried Wi*na ****** in all of Lanarkshire thinking she might have been Wilhelmina/Williamina, but no luck. The Jemima Lennon isn't her, I tried Margaret and I can't think what else Minnie would be nickname for.
My Gr-Gran was Rose Ann ******, born Hamilton 1913. Her parents were John ****** (1865) and Susan Gallacher (1880), they married in 1913. She had a sister Agnes (1919-1938) and a brother Denis (1916-1929). They also had an illegitimate child in 1907 (also Rose Ann) who died in infancy.
Her father was previously married to Susan's late sister Rose Ann (died 1900) and they had Elizabeth (1894), James (1896) and Annie (1897). I know where John and the children were in 1901 census so Minnie doesn't belong with them so much be younger than Annie.
Any ideas where I can find her that I may not have thought of? I'm wondering if I'm going to have to wait until the next, or one after, census is released before I find her.
Edited to conform with guidelines dealing with possible living persons. Paddyscar

Hi Lennon:
Your post has been edited. We regret that we cannot help with queries about any persons who might still be living.
Please see The Essential Reading thread http://talkingscot.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6601
Have you tried the forename Minerva or Min*rva? Hopefully someone else will come up with some other possibilities of full names for Minnie.
Have you ried looking for her under either mother's surname without a mention of the father, just in case the mother brought the child into the marriage?
Regards,
Frances

Hi Lennon,
I think Minnie was often used for Mary.
But it was also a nickname used for lots of other reasons like eg the youngest in the family and so might bear no relation to the real name!
Not what you wanted to hear I'm sure!
Regards,
Meg

Main family lines are Harpers from Midlothian, Fife & Kinross-shire, and Dobies/Dobbies from Midlothian. Also Strathearn, Stobie, Layden and Downie.
