help finding date of death
Hi
Can anyone help in trying to trace the dates of death for William and Margaret Johnston. They were married in Gretna in 1846. They had 3 children Jane born 1853 hoddam, William b 1861 Paisley and Helen b 1865 in Greenock. All 3 died in Greenock but I am unable to trace William and Margaret's date of death.
Margaret's maiden name was Lancaster but I am unsure where they both were born.
What I do know is Margaret must have died between 1865 when Helen was born and when Jane got married in feb 1874. I have checked SP and connot find any trace or I am missing something.
Any pointers would be great

At first look I can't see a death for Margaret yet.
Just to help anyone else looking.
The family in 1861 are at Linside, Paisley, with more children. They originate from England.
William Johnstone (sic), 36, b. England, Brick Building Labourer
Margaret, wife, 32 b. England
Joseph, son, 14, b. England, Mill Worker
John, son 12, b. England
Jane, daur, 8 b. Paisley
Gilbert, son 5, b. Paisley (28 Jan 1856 from IGI)
Mary, daur, 2, b. Paisley (Mary Ann 11 Nov 1858 from IGI)
Will keep looking.
Cheers
Ellen.

Hi Ellen
Thank you very much for this information - didn't realise they had all these children. I keep going back to th is branch of the tree and I think I have looked up every William Johnston in the Renfrew area but nothing seems to fit.
Daughter Jane according to 1861 census born Paisley but I think she was born in Hoddam as far as I know.
Will a further look for more information based on what you have come up with.
Thanks again
Carol

Hi Carol
This one seems to fit:
1868 JOHNSTONE MARGARET LANCAS F 43 PAISLEY MIDDLE CHURCH /RENFREW 573/03 0152
Seems, if it is the correct record, that Lancaster was given as her middle name on this occaision.
Best wishes
Lesley
(You searched for: Surname: "Jo*ns*n*"; Use Soundex: Off; Forename: "ma*"; Sex: "Female"; Year From: 1865; Year To: 1871; Birth Year: 1820; Birth Year Range: 10; County: RENFREW;)
- both Johnston and Margaret are names which turn up in many guises. Margarets often turn up as "Maggie" Using wildcards covers most of these variations, except perhaps for the really creative ones and the mistranscriptions!

Hi Lesley
Yeah William was alive at wedding on 6/02/1874 - I remember looking at 1881 census but don't think I came up with anything. Will have to go onto old laptop and input discs for 1881 census as I don't know how to get it loaded onto this one.
Will try later today .
Thanks for information from everyone and yeah teamwork is great.
Well done all TS
