Hi there, I've posted the same question in general discussion, but wasn't sure if it was more relevant here:
I'm new to this and I'm trying to obtain marriage records for a woman who would only have been married sometime after 1973. Can anyone tell me why scotlandspeople only have records upto 1932 and how/where I can find more recent records?
Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi Defosco,
Welcome to TalkingScot.
ScotlandsPeople are bound by legislation that they cannot put online images of birth records within the last 100 years, marriage records within the last 75 years or death rcords within the last 50 years. More recently, the indexes for the births and deaths up to 2006 were put online. The marriage modern indexes would have gone online at the same time, but for some technical issues. These issues are being worked upon and these indexes may come online soon (no date given yet).
These records are available in New Register House, Edinburgh and Park Circus, Glasgow, or by post from New Register House. There is a page on the GROS website with more info. For these modern records, if you wish a copy, you have to buy an extract. That is more expensive than the older images you can download from ScpotlandsPeople.
See http://www.gro-scotland.gov.uk/famrec/bdm.html for more information.
All the best,
AndrewP

Hi Defosco,
If the name is uncommon, GROS may be able to find it for you. Otherwise you should book yourself a place in Park Circus, Glasgow, for a day's research.
Marriage certificates from 1972 give the dates of birth of the bride and groom. Prior to 1972, it is the age at marriage that is given. The age or birth date is not on the index, so that cannot be used as search criteria. The certificate needs to be viewed to see thew age or birth date.
All the best,
AndrewP
