Hi all,
I'd appreciate from help from you eagle-eyed people on the death certificate of Euphemia Hair, maiden surname Brown. Her father seems to be John Brown, but what in the world is his occupation?

I too think it can't be DEAD but it isn't even Deceased abbreviated?
What would the cause of death be? does the 'dead' word run into that section? but would her father at 90 odd still be alive
What has interested me is, not Euphemia Hair's entry, but the one above.
a 10 month child with no parents mentioned? can some eagle-eye decifer that one?

Yes, it is very oddWilmaM wrote:I too think it can't be DEAD but it isn't even Deceased abbreviated?
I don't think it runs over... the cause of death is quite clear (I think!) as: Paralysis of 3 months as certified by _____ Surgeon.WilmaM wrote:What would the cause of death be? does the 'dead' word run into that section? but would her father at 90 odd still be alive![]()
Spoken like a hairdresser, Tracey! Surely you can find a way to use that?!Tracey wrote: What a great name it could have been Euphemia Brown Hair

Here's what I can get:
Believed 8 ... of the ... half past 3... 3d February 1864, Irvine Moor(?) in the Parish of Irvine and Shire of Ayr
Exposure to Severe cold for a length of time Certified by Dr Shields, Irvine, who made a Post Mortem Examination

Sarah

What about 'furniture house warehouse dealr'?
Further to Wilma's query:
Between 8 PM of the 2nd and half past 3 AM of the 3rd February
1864 Irvine Wood in Parish of Irvine Shire of Ayr.
Cause of death: Exposure to severe cold for a length of time.
Signature & Qualification of informant: Registrar on the confirmation of J. F. Murdoch P.F. (or S.F.?)
And even more of a mystery - How is it that the name of the baby of 10 months was known, but not the name of the parents?
Seems Sarah Munro may have been an abandoned baby, and J.F. Murdoch a policeman?

That might be it and he neglected to put "deceased"-- as he certainly was. In fact, I think he was long deceased, since I can't even find him in 1841.paddyscar wrote:What about 'furniture house warehouse dealr'?
That is the real puzzle... I've been looking up births of Sarah Munro, but haven't found anything obvious. Poor wee thingpaddyscar wrote:And even more of a mystery - How is it that the name of the baby of 10 months was known, but not the name of the parents?
The 10 months old part fits this birth in the IGI:
SARAH BURKE MUNRO
20 MAR 1863
Dumbarton, Dunbarton, Scotland
Father: HUGH MUNRO
Mother: SARAH MC EWAN
But I can't find a birth in Ayr.
Regards,
Sarah
